Botanical Name: Allocasuarina zephyrea
Common Name: western sheoak
Family: Casuarinaceae

Size: To 2 m H.
Leaves: are actually tiny triangular teeth surrounding the joints in the branchlets, which themselves could be mistaken for leaves. The branchlets are narrow, linear, circular in cross section, furrowed and 5 to 23 cm long
Flowers:
Female flowers red, in clusters on short side shoots. Male flowers in spikes at ends of branchlets. Male and female flowers on separate plants.
Flowering Time: Throughout the year.
Fruit: Cylindrical cones 1-3 cm long and 06-1.4 cm in diameter, on short side branches.

Habitat/distribution: Found in western areas of Tasmania including King Island in coastal heaths and shrublands
Where to See: Rocky Cape NP, West Point (SW of Marrawah), Arthur River Rd
Other notes: Tolerates a wide variety of conditions. Propagate from seed.
