Allocasuarina paludosa

Botanical Name:  Allocasuarina paludosa
Common Name:  scrub sheoak
Family:  Casuarinaceae
Size:  1-2 m H.

Leaves: are actually tiny triangular teeth surrounding the joints in the branchlets, which themselves could be mistaken for leaves. The branchlets are narrow, linear, circular in cross section, furrowed and 6-13 cm long
Flowers: Female flowers red, in clusters on short side shoots. Male flowers in spikes at ends of branchlets. Male and female flowers on separate plants.
Flowering Time: July to February.
Fruit: Cylindrical cones 10-18 mm long and 7-13 mm in diameter, on short side branches and often in whorls.

Habitat/distribution: Damp, poorly drained soils in the north-east
Where to See: Coastal heaths between Binalong Bay and the Gardens and near Musselroe Bay.
Other notes: Hardy compact shrub needing full sun. Propagate from seed.
